Transmission Companies

Société Européenne des Satellites, is the owner of the Astra satellites and the biggest European satellite operator. It transmits programmes for the BBC, and BSkyB (SkyDigital), as well as for other European broadcasters.

Castle Transmissions handles the television transmissions for the BBC, including its new digital service, as well as a number of radio and mobile telephone services.

NTL handles the television transmissions for the commercial channels (ITV) and it has also acquired many cable companies. NTL is owned by International CableTel.

Telewest the other main cable provider is investing heavily in building a national fibre optic network as well as laying local cable to households, or acquiring local cable providers.

Kingston Communications of Hull is using its telephone network to broadcast TV channels using ADSL technology.

BT, Cable and Wireless, and the other telecom providers, provide the leased lines for the Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
